Preventing Illegal Working - updated guidance

Over 5500 illegal working enforcement operations were carried out in 2009/2010 by the UK Border Agency and, since the regime was implemented in 2008, over 5000 civil penalties have been issued. The new guidance is aimed at helping employers to understand the law on illegal working and what they need to do to comply.

This updated guidance refines that originally provided by UKBA in 2008 and is a useful reference tool for HR staff who are likely to be involved in the recruitment and retention of staff.

The guidance includes details of document checks that employers are advised to undertake along with images of the evidence that may be presented by migrants as proof of their right to work in the UK.
